Reuben Patterson Art Work

Over the last few weeks we have been looking at the art work of Kiwi artist, Reuben Patterson. He uses koru, kowhaiwhai patterns and glitter in some of his pieces.

We used 'The Wharenui that Dad Built' to inspire us. Everyone made their own panel and we put them together to create joint art works.

Check them out!

Balloons

For Fun Friday this week we got to play with balloons, we had so much fun!

We played some games with the balloons, we tried to keep them from touching the floor and had a race where we had to blow our balloons from one end of the classroom to the other!

Miss Macdonald and Jack had a race, but she wasn't very good couldn't even get the balloon to move!

Lisa, Julia, Courtney and Jasmeen racing with their balloons in between their legs! Go Lisa!

Jack, Anmol and Julia trying to blow their balloons to the finish line!

Brooke, Ronan and Adheesh decorating their balloons!
Julia and Ya-Wen making sure they know which one is theirs!

Maths Time

We have been working hard at maths time.

Every Friday we have a basic facts challenge, everyone is practicing hard and moving through the levels.

We need to keep working hard on our 'number knowledge'. At home you could be practicing your numbers before and after, skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and practicing your basic facts.

Check out the slideshow of us working hard at maths time.

Swimming

We have been going swimming this term, we have really enjoyed it especially on those hot afternoons!

Some of us are so confident in the water and were practicing floating and blowing bubbles. On the last few sessions, our buddies came swimming with us and we played some games and did some races in the water.

Room 9 2011...

We have been working hard in Room 9 and getting used to the expectations and routines. We have been discussing our Hillpark School Core Values, these are...
  • We value learning
  • We value a supportive and challenging environment
  • We value diversity
  • We value working together
  • We value honesty and integrity
We have used these values to make our own class treaty. Everybody agreed on them and we are looking forward to an exciting year filled with lots of fun and learning!

As a part of our behaviour management programme we have a special treat on Fridays called 'Fun Friday', on Friday afternoons we get to make things based on our letter of the week. So far we have made f-f-fairy bread, m-m-milo and m-m-marshmellows, s-s-scrumptious spiders and j-j-juice and j-j-jellybeans!

Check out some photos from our 'Fun Friday's' so far!
